Franchises with a low overhead have the best success rate. Look into franchises that are inexpensive to run such as wireless phones, small restaurants/food carts, and the like.

The best franchise investments are defined by your abilities and skills, your budget and your long-term business goals. There are websites that rank franchise opportunities, but no one franchise is best for everyone wishing to invest.

They are the franchises with an instant customer base in any given locale based on name recognition. Also a parent company that provides training and material.

You want to stay away from the franchises that have become extremely popular - you need to find the new ones that are going to be popular in a couple of years. Get on the bandwagon too late and you are doomed. The exception is Dunkin' Donuts, which all do well but are very expensive.

The best businesses to invest in is a very subjective matter, but if you're looking for stable companies, go for ones that are very large. These include Microsoft, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Intel, Johnson and Johnson and Dow Chemical. Besides being stable, these companies all have a dividend.
