Open ended tickets are more expensive, but don't fix a date for the flight back. However, often it is cheaper to buy a second, separated ticket for the flight back!

The advantage of buying an open ended flight is that you can set your return date without have to guess and then change it to something else with a fee. The disadvantage however is that the price is usually slightly higher than a typical round trip or one way ticket.

Advantages are obvious, that you don't have to designate your trips length. Disadvantages are that they are regularly at a premium cost, and that you must fly back on the return trip within 1 year.

Buying an open ended flight instead of a fixed date ticket give you the advantage of flexibility. This way, if you don't know exactly when you will return, you don't need to pay extra fews like you would if you changed a fixed date ticket. On the other hand, the date you choose may be full.

The major advantage is the flexibilty of how long you can stay there. This is great for people who are studying abroad with college or living overseas for a limited or unknown period of time. The obvious disatvantage is the price. They are more costly than set flights, but can still be less than two one way tickets.

I think that an advantage would be the fact that there would be no time constraint on making your flight back home. Whatever the reason for the initial trip can be fulfilled to its maximum extent, or explored even further than planned. Not to mention all the other discoveries and adventures that can be taken with no flight deadline.

One advantage is that it is convenient. You can book a seat at the last minute. The disadvantage is hat some airlines may charge fees. Depending on your travel distance, the fee may vary.

Advantages include customization and also picking your flight and not having to wait for it being sold out. Disadvantages you may end up paying more for a seat than normal.

One advantage is, you can be return any time. The disadvantages are that they are more expensive and you could have problems booking a return if you wait too long.

You will be able to more flexible on your itenerary, if something arises and you need to change your flight date you wont have to pay an additional penalty or fee.
