I spent some time in Mumbai and New Delhi last year for modeling. A side to side hand way means no or go away. Use your right hand to eat and do everything else, especially to touch someone. The left hand is considered unclean. Awesome place to travel! Never point at anyone, period.

American Sign language exists in india, to a small extent, but there is also written communication, as well as instrumental notices.
