Try using an ice cube to freeze it and chip it off. You could also use goo gone or peanut butter.

Get a cube of ice and rub the gum with it until the gum hardens. This should make the gum easier to pull off.

If the gum is old and dry then warm up some vinegar and use it in a circular motion with a little scrub brush or a toothbrush.

Try rubbing the gum with an ice cube, then scraping the area with a spoon or other tool that will not tear the upholstery. Once you have removed all the gum possible in this way, treat the area with a cleaner formulated for upholstery. Rub with an old wash cloth or sock.

Get a can of keyboard duster (the kind that sprays compressed air) and turn it upside down. Spray the air upside down on the gum. This will freeze the gum. Then it should be easy to remove! Make sure that you hold it upside down and spray it long enough to make it freeze.
