Pay attention well in your classes to make sure you understand key concepts. Purchase or check out an SAT study book from the library or a bookstore. Attend SAT workshops if they're offered in your area. Form a study group with friends or peers from school and quiz each other on common SAT questions.

Most colleges offer courses to help students learn information covered on the ACT and SAT. Bookstores also carry other versions of these courses and contain study aids to help with every area covered by the SAT. To study, find the areas you are weak on and spend some time focusing. Don't cram for the exam!

The SAT tests mainly conceptual knowledge in math, so think beyond the actual numbers and ask yourself what concept the question is testing you on. For the verbal -- vocabulary is all! Review Greek and Latin root words.

Because most students are weakest in mathematics, practice tests, extra tutoring and constantly reviewing mathemathical formulations gives students a leg up. Reading as many literary books (there are some great books that use common SAT words) as possible to boost your vocabulary is also highly effective.

There are several fantastic study guides available both in book stores and in libraries that are made to help you prepare for the SATs. Kaplan is the gold standard.
