Use some type of sealant on your hair before using hot rollers or curling irons, because otherwise you could end up frying your hair and seriously damaging it. Also, try to curl your hair in small sections. Dividing it up ahead of time with hair clips can be helpful. Curl in the direction of your hair.

On clean wet hair, apply some styling lotion, combed through and put the curlers in. Either let them sit overnight, or use a blowdryer to speed up the process.

Put curlers in when hair is damp. Spray with conditioner before rolling and roll in small sections. The smaller the section the tighter the curl will be. When removing curlers do not brush-just comb through lightly with your fingers. When hair is styled, set with a good extra hold hair spray.

The smaller a hair roller the tighter the curl, or for a more lasting curl go to a reputable hair salon and get a perm. Another solution is have a friend you trust, give you a home perm. Remember, if you don't like it, either cut the perm off or let it grow out.
