Take advantage of any mentoring programs or opportunities offered by your school system. Try to form a support group with other new teachers with whom you also trade ideas. Be prepared to make mistakes, and ready to learn from them. Keep track of your successes and try to repeat them.

The most important thing is to set a balance between being well-liked and being well-respected. Don't be so stern that everyone gets uncomfortable with you, but also don't be so friendly that students cannot respect you at all. Plan the day ahead of time and make your expectations clear. Be kind and respectful but enforce the rules.

Teaching is a wonderful job. Be sure you are ready for what lies ahead. Be sure to have all of your supplies ready as well as a plan for what you will be doing as school starts. Have rules prepared for teh class. Be ready, and try not to stress. Most importantly have fun!
