The word to keep in mind when designing a room for an autistic child is soothing. Colors should be muted or neutral. It should not be busy but placating.

You'll mostly want to keep things simple. Make sure to not use bunk beds. You can make things interesting, but keep the furniture simple and sturdy. You'll want to keep the room itself rather bland, but you can add interesting things in the room like toys.

Keep it simple. Keep it safe. Have a place for everything- and everything in its place. Soft corners and unbreakable decorations will work best. Don't have long curtains or bedside lamps. Choose a theme that the child likes, dinosaurs or cars for wall art and bedding.

Use simple themes and be sure to have activities available to the child, remember that routine is the most important to the child.

Use colors that are visually stimulating to your child. You could possibly incorporate some of your child's favorite toys or things so your child so it's your child's own room.
