Some reasons for annulment include fraud, refusing to consummate the marriage, bigamy, being forced into marriage because of outside pressures (such as pregnancy or blackmail), not fully understanding the commitment or being psychologically unable to honor the commitment. The Church also annuls marriages that weren't performed following canon law.

Annulment in the Catholic Churhc, is granted when a marriage is deemed to have never been valid. For example, it may be granted if one or both parties were forced into the marriage, if one or both parties was already validly married or if one or both parties cannot love.

The most common reasons for annulment in the Catholic Church are the infidelity of a spouse and the marriage never having been consummated due to spouses not engaging in intercourse.
