Constipation is less than 3 bowel movements a week, often hard and difficult to pass. It can be accompanied by abdominal pain, gas, bloating, rectal bleeding (from hard stool), cramps, nausea and vomiting. Constipation has many causes, most of which are benign, such as lack of fiber, poor hydration, stress, and medication side effects.
