Few know that he was born in Genoa, Italy. Also, few know that many of the names of Caribbean islands today came from him, including Virgin Gorda and the Virgin Islands, Nevis, and St. Kitts. He also briefly served time in jail.

When Christopher Columbus found America, he hadn't brought much pepper, since he thought he was sailing to India. Indians use pepper to make spoiled food taste better. The Native Americans showed Columbus the pepper that we know today, which he used instead of traditional Indian pepper for food that had spoiled.
