Pianos should be positioned away from heating or air conditioning ducts because sudden changes in humidity or temperature can cause the piano to go out of tune. Find a location that accentuates the piano's sound, but that is out of the way of the room's main traffic flows.

When positioning a piano you must first take into consideration what type of piano - upright/grand. If you have an upright, you might try placing it on a solid wall, or have windows flanking it. If if is a grand, then certainly you need the extra room to place it away from the walls but near good lighting.
