What are some helpful tips for writing songs?

At start, you have to create a draft of your song without lyrics (chords, rythm), always keep in mind to keep it simple, you wont create a masterpiece right at start. Than, you create your lyrics. After that, you rearange your melody to fit with the lyrics. You can stay with chords, but it's not quite creative.

Take your time. Great songs are not made in a single day. Make it when you're totally inspired since it drives you do create great lyrics. Don't always go for fancy words, even simple words could make a great song. It would help if its about your real expereiences.
