If the boss is a lady, how about a silk lounging robe or some expensive chocolates to indulge her. If the boss is a man, a real good pair of cuff links or a money clip would be fine. Surprisingly both sexes seem to enjoy receiving flowers or exotic plants.

I would recommend contacting the boss's family and getting a picture blown up to poster size highlighting a special occasion, or having the picture etched into glass that the boss can display in his office or desk. Tickets to a sporting event tend to go over well or something that he can use with his favorite hobby (Custom golf club).

Gift cards to a gourmet restaurant is nice. If he is a sports fan, tickets for his favorite team is fine. Get a CD collection for his favorite group.
