What are some good answers to why I left my old job that won't hurt my chances of finding new employment?

My last job was not enough of a challenge. I need to expand my experiences in my field. My last employer was very close to going out of business. I found that my last job was not exactly what I thought it was going to be. There was no promotional opportunity at my last job.

The only good answer is the truth. The potential employer will probably check. If you are found to have lied, you will not be considered further. Don't go into detail, but try to imagine what your former employer would say about why you left and think of a more flattering or neutral way to say the same thing.

A good answer to why you left your previous job is always the truth, or you could say that you did not feel that the goals of the organization and direction in which it was going in was a good fit for your skill sets and goals in life. The truth is always best.

It is always best to tell the truth when looking for new employment, if they find out you lied, it could be even worse for you. They may call your old job for references and find out the truth. But if you must lie, you could say you moved, or you were not being given enough hours.

1. You were laid off. 2. It was a hostile work environment, and you left voluntarily than risk being fired. 3. You took a voluntary furlough, and then the employment came to an end. 4. You left in hopes of finding something more stable and secure, and your interviewer's firm has a strong future.
