Cedar chips will keep fleas out. Planting pansy around the pets pen would control fleas as well. Diatomaceous earth sprinkled around the yard is a natural anti pest that is not harmful. One cup pine sol with one cup vinegar added to a hose and sprayed around the yard twice a month will kill fleas and prevent them too.

Vacuuming and washing pet bedding often is always helpful. While not free, planting chrysanthemums around the house and spreading diatomaceous earth around the yard is a cheap and organic way to combat flea infestations. Cleaning your home with anything that is citrus-based will also be very useful.

Get rid of the pet that is the source of the fleas. If that is not an option, try to minimize the foliage or your lawn and adjacent plants.

Get rid of the pet that is the source of the fleas?!?!?! You are ignorant. You just dont get rid of your pet. You treat them.  add a comment

Unless the fleas are your pet. They commentor was not ignorant just because you are limited only to the possiblities you can think of. I certainly wouldn't take that pet for a treat. Filthy animals that bring fleas into my home do not get treated. They get a flea bath.  add a comment

Original style Dawn dishsoap may be helpful in ridding fleas from your pet and home. The pet can be bathed in the soap and dishes of soap can be placed around the house. Fleas seem to be attracted to them.

Clean and vacuum thoroughly. Sprinkling salt over carpets and upholstery will help inside as does boiling a lemon in water and using as a spray. Sprinkle diatomaceous earth outside.

I came across this remedy whilst talking to someone from a tropical area. They told me to use Tea Tree oil, the water dispersable kind. Use 1 part Tea Tree oil to 10 parts water in a spray bottle.

I found a recipe that works. Fleas, and mosquitos, do not like citrus. Collect citrus peels and freeze them until you have about 1/2 pound. Boil the peals in about a quart of water. Let this cool and strain to get rid of peals. Use a spray bottle to spread over pets and outside. Won't have pets.

I have a cat and use a product called frontline spot on and it kills all fleas. I have no fleas in my home this year for the first time i have ever owned a pet. It comes in 3 or 6 pipettes apply one monthly, my cat is very healthy and actually sleeps on the carpet happily.

Tobacco dust for the yard. Inexpensive and really works. You can get it from a flea market or tobacco shop or cigar shop and it works almost immediatley. Just spread it on your lawn.

Use a homemade lemon spray/solution. Mix one part of lemon with an equal amount of water and spray or pour over affected areas, including pets.
