The Crusades occurred from the late 11th to 13th centuries, with the goal of claiming the Holy Land in the Middle East for Christianity. They ultimately failed.

The crusades happened at the end of the Dark Ages and before the Renaissance. The goal of the crusaders was to expel Muslims from the city of Jerusalem and put it under Christian control. There were many crusades but only the first one was actually sucessful in conquering the city.
