It is the tallest mountain in the world at 29,029 feet or 8,848 meters above sea level. It is part of the Himalaya range. It is located along the border between Nepal and Tibet. It is named after George Everest, a Welsh surveyor and the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843.

Mount Everest was formed roughly 60 million years ago; its name in Nepali is Sagarmatha, meaning "Goddess of the Sky". In Tibet, it is Chomolungma, "Mother Goddess of the Universe".

The first official measurement of Everest's height came out to exactly 29,000 feet, but it was announced as 29,002 feet so people wouldn't think that it was just an estimate.
