Champagne is a sparkling wine (generally white wine, but there are rose and red varieties) that is specifically from the region of Champagne, in France. Only the wines from Champagne may use that name. Sparkling wines from other areas will commonly note that they are of the Champagne style.

Probably the most well-known tidbit about champagne is you can't really call it "champagne" unless it is made in France! Also, a good bottle of champange should be rotated clockwise once a week to keep its bubble, and "cold duck" champagne is actually a mix of three kinds of wine.

Champagne only comes from one region in France: Champagne. Otherwise, the name is Sparkling Wine. The reason that Champagne bubbles is that natural carbonation mixes with dust in the glass. If you drop a raisen in a glass of champagne, it will float up and down in the center of the glass.

Champagne just got its name champagne because that is the region in France where it is from. Champagne is the exact same thing as "sparkling wine", even though people tend to look down on this name. The only difference is that it is not literally from the Champagne region in France.

Champagne is a sparkling wine, produced exclusively in the champagne region of France. Chardonnay, Pinot noir, and pinot meunier grapes are primarily used in production.
