Communication and transportation. 200 years ago telephones did not exist. If you wanted to communicate with somebody far away you had to send a message by foot. Now we have cell phones and the internet. Or if we want to go and see the person we can drive or fly.

In the past 100 years, running water has gone from 10% to 70% of the world's population. Electricity has gone from 5% to over 80%.
