I would go to the plant nursery because it'll carry plants for your area. Best bets are marigolds, petunias, alyssum, begonias, vinca, veronica, daisies, sunflowers, hollyhocks, ice plant, blue daze. Also consider plants such as herbs (mint, basil, chives... ) that can be used to fill your table too!
Petunias, geraniums, nasturtiums, snapdragons, marigolds and dusty miller are plants that do well in full sun. My favorite are begonias, specifically the sidewing variety; depending on where you live they are mostly maintenance free (no pinching back needed) and are somewhat drought tolerant.
Some annuals that work well in full sun are as follows: ivy geranium, petunia, ageratum, salvia, rose moss, sunflower, zinnia, marigold, and coleus. All of these plants are suitable annuals to grow in pots or as a sunny border. Most full sun annuals are accustomed to drought-like conditions, so the abundant sun light is what makes them perfect for this.
Some of my favorite full-sun annuals are Cleomes, Begonias, Petunias, Geraniums (especially the scented ones), Dahlias, Zinnas, Marigolds, Impatiens, Pansies, Sunflowers, Cornflowers, Snapdragons, Salvia, and Verbenas. Be sure to keep them watered! Though they may be drought-tolerant, they will flower better for you if they are kept watered. Many will spread by seed, too!
There are many annuals you could try and also a few perennials. Try Marigolds, Daisies, Gazanias, Lobelia, Petunias. Most of these thrive in the hot sun and particularly Gazanias thrive in poor soil. I would look at a mixture of perennials and annuals to give you a continuos display. You could also try a few low growing bushes.
Zinnias, an old standby for summer blooms, and Asters for late summer into fall, are always a good choice for full sun, while red colored New Zealand Inpatients not only like full sun they are drought resistant as well.
There are hundreds of varieties of annuals that can do well in a sunny yard with the right water: Petunias, snap dragons, swiss chard, amaranth, and marigolds are a few and don't forget to interplant with vegetables.
i love pansey and petunes because they flower all summer long the only bad thing about these plants is that you have to pick the flower off to make them get bushes. there are other like verena and fushsia and geraniums that are good for the sun but are not my flavor
Gladiolias and pansys do wonderful in full sun. There are countless annuals you can get that will do well in the sun go to your local greenhouse and they will have a large selection that you can chose from and they can help you get plants and tell you how to set everything up for them.
