Lavender is an extremely hardy plant that can adapt to a variety of growing conditons. Though lavender can be grown in partial-shade conditions, the plant will thrive best when it is located in an area where it will receive full sun.

Lavender can grow in partial sun or full sun the best sun is morning sun. Most lavender can be found growing on the sunny side of a mountain side.

There are different varities in lavender. Some may need full sun to grow. Generally it is a drought tolerant plant. But you have to water it properly for first 10 days. Later, it will tolerate and will grow in full sun light.

While lavender does love full sun, there are varieties that can do well with just partial sun. Check with your local plant nursery for their recommendation.
