Crepe myrtles are susceptible to powdery mildew, a fungal disease that forms a white dusty coating on the foliage and limbs. Sooty mold, another fungal disease, grows on the honeydew excreted by sucking insects, such as aphids. Damp weather, poor air circulation and shady conditions are conducive to fungal diseases on crepe myrtles.
