These plants, also known as moth orchids, get a bacterial disease called black spot that makes the leaves drop. The spot actually starts out white and turns black as it spreads. You can spray if you catch it early enough. If the plant has lost leaves you should repot it and take care not to overwater it.

The most common and the one I am familiar with is called black spot its a bacteria. The black spots spread and kill off the leaves. You can stop it if you catch it early it doesnt harm the roots. Repot the plant and lightly spray leaves until it recovers.

Bacterial black spots seem to go after these plants most often. Orchids are notoriously hard to grow because of their suseptibilty to diseases that can cause irrepairable damage to them. The best thing to do for this is to replace the soil surrounding it and to go to a garden center to find a supplement for the plant.

The diesase of bacterial black spots starts as a tiny pearly spot in the crown and goes unnoticed. It turns black, spreads, drop its leaves off, leaves a dead crown.
