Luau decorations are generally anything brightly colored and tropically themed. Hawaiian leis in different colors, colored Christmas lights, flip-flops, grass skirts, tiki torches, coconuts, bananas, and totem poles all make good luau decorations.

When planning a party with the luau theme, tropical flowers and palm trees (artificial is okay)are a must. Guests should be given a lei to wear. Grass skirts are also an important part of a luau.

At the luau I went to last year we had tiki torches, Hawaiian skirts, and centerpieces that were made to look like pineapples. There is also a section of Oriental Trading (a mail order magazine) geared specifically towards luaus in the summer time. This has great ideas if you want large quantities of things to use as prizes.
