The main issue you may have are chronic ear infections, joint problems, and you will want to learn about an intestinal issue called bloat.

the common basset hound health problems are eye infections (Glaucoma), ear infections (due to long floppy ears), obesity and some common allergies. to avoid this you can clean him regularly and its highly recommended to clean his ears once in two weeks.

Basset hounds can have ear problems due to their long, floppy ears ad eye problems due to bacteria collecting in the folds of skin around their eyes. Other problems are often weight related and they can develop back problems due to their legs being too short to support the weight.

Ear infections (clean frequently to prevent), Eye problems, allergies, multiple skin problems including infections on the chin from drool, infections in the wrinkles, problems with yeast, arthritis, back problems, bloat, bone problems... but they are great dogs & I wouldn't trade mine for anything!

Basset hounds are prone to bone and joint problems, since they have a heavy-set build. They, also, can have skin problems and will be likely to get ear infections easier than some other breeds. It is not a health problem, but they do shed a whole lot for a short haired dog.

The problem is,of course, that you do have a puppy, but the real issue is that, smart as they are,Bassets have to decide that THEY want to do or learn something before any kind of traning is really effective. Unfortunately,I can advise you to use crate and area restricting, and patience and persistence.
