Palmetto bugs are actually large cockroaches. They need moisture to live and are found in warm, tropical climates. They enter homes in search of warmth and food and will eat anything. They carry bacteria from sewage waste and can cause health problems. They can also cause allergies when they shed their skin as they get bigger.

Palmetto bug is just a nicer sounding name for the American cockroach. They can grow up to two inches long, have wings and can fly. Palmetto bugs live in warm, high humidity climates.

They call squid calamari for the same reason they call roaches palmetto bugs. It's because palmetto bug sounds better then roach. I used to live in Florida so I know all about palmetto bugs. These bugs can feast on pretty much anything organic and can be very hard to get rid of. These creatures thrive in hot humid conditions.
