Generally, no you cannot bury a relative on your own property. However you can contact a lawyer about getting a waiver to do so. Usually this involves describing how the burial plot will be constructed (if it is up to specs and such). It also helps if you are famous.

I was curious myself since I once owned land in the Ozarks and know how remote it is. The answer is yes. "Home burial is permissible in MO. " There's more information at the website about guidelines like how far to be from the water supply and so forth.

Missouri law requires that a licensed funeral director be present to personally supervise the burial. A plot of land, not to exceed one acre, must be deeded in trust and the deed filed in the county courthouse. It's best to locate the grave site away from water sources, power lines and the neighbor's fence.

There are no states that allow you to bury people on your own property. This would violate health laws. People must be buried in graveyards, or cremated by the proper authority.

Not true, there are many states that allow families to take part in the caring for a family member who has passed. Check with your state, and local governments for the proper information in your area.  add a comment

This is not true. Personal property burial is allowed by law if certain deed documents are originated and filed with county.  add a comment

Home burial is allowed under MO law. The land has to be deeded in trust and filed with the county. Not more then one acre. Map of the land for the county with the deed would help. Documents should be on file well beforehand as it takes time to be recorded and filed as such.

Does the law require you to be buried in a vault

No. However, many cemeteries, especially the larger ones, may require an outer container which can be a simple concrete box.  add a comment
