I would suggest finding a nice hotel that will allow you to set up and have your ceremony and either use the same room or another one to have the reception. Most hotels are used to having weddings and are willing to help. Also you might try finding a nice park depending on what season.

A great alternative to a church wedding is getting married on a boat. Many of the great lakes have party boat services you can book for wedding ceremonies. I had mine on Lake Erie.
