Hydrocarbons are organic compounds comprised of hydrogen and carbon. The term biogenic refers to their origin in vegetation. They are naturally occurring, some of them volatile. They can participate in the formation of ozone and significantly affect ozone levels. Together with anthropogenic hydrocarbons they constitute a part of the smog forming over urban areas.

They are molecules consisting of carbon and hydrogen that come from animals. One example is methane which is released by people and livestock.
