"Active-Dashboards" refers to a real-time management information reporting system, often internet/web-based but not necessarily, where charts/graphs or other highly intuitive/visual methods (like stock-tickers, instant-messages, news-clips, ...) are used to display the health/status of a business or organization.
Analagous to an automobile-dashboard's: speedometer, tachometer, fuel-gauge, temperature-gauge, voltage-gauge, ... but business/organization-appropriate metrics.
