Question by  Gabriella (25)

What age is appropriate for reading Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements?

I know it is a teen book.

Answer by  patti (29325)

The book is recommended for "young teens," which means ages 11-15. The book is a "coming of age" story about 15-year-old Bobby and his attempts to conduct his life apart from his parents' interference. It is a classic tale of conflict between a teen trying to exert independence and parents' who struggle with that.

Preteen as well as adults should be able to enjoy this book about a boy who has to cope with the fact he is invisble not only to the world, but to himself as a human being. We have to learn to love ourselves before we can ever let anyone else in our lives.

The book is apprpriate for kids aged 11-15. After 15, and perhaps before, it is likely that a reader would be too jaded to appreciate Clements' message about the years in which a kid begins to break away from the family.

Depends a lot on the person's maturity level. There are some emotional issues younger people might not understand but anywhere from twelve or so on should be fine.
