A temp agency is a great option for temporary work when you have lost a job. Especially now, when there aren't many jobs to begin with. Most temp agencys require that you have some kind of experience in the field you wil be working in. It is there responsibility to place you with a job that fits you.

Make yourself completely available. Once placed, do your best. Arrive on time, be diligent, offer to help where you can. Doing these things will keep you busy later.

Make sure you let the temp agency know that you want a temp to hire job primarily, but you will take anything. A temp to hire job means that after a probation period (usually 90 days) the company might hire you if they like you.

Be careful of the percentage that they take of your wages. After taxes and agency fees, you may make less than minimum wage.

A temp agency has advantages in that you work for companies that may give you a job offer. You will already know whether you want to work for that company.

Make sure your skills are up to date. If they're not, look into classes at your local high school or community college. Also, take any job the temp agency offers you. You will get a reputation for being reliable, and you never know when a company you go to work for as a temp might be hiring.

Working for a temp agency can be a lot of fun as you will likely get to try out a lot of different types of jobs for different employers. It can be frustrating though because you get crappy jobs dumped on you and you never get to know anyone on a personal level.
