One of the practical ways in eliminating cicadas is to whack them literally if you are not going to use insecticide for the purpose. Such activity would be best done during night time as they are not that active compared during daylight.

Cicadas are also known as Ground Digger Wasps and they make their nest in unfertilized earth. Make a mixture of water and ammonia in the ratio one-to-one and pour this mixture into the holes of the cicadas. Make sure this is done at night when they are resting. The undiluted powder ammonia can also be used to kill the cicadas.

Twenty mule team borax laundry soap works really great. Just spread it where the cicadas are and it will kill them,

Cicadas are not GDW's- Ground Digger Wasps; GDW's are exactly that - wasps. Most common GDW is the Cicada Killer. Sorry Esme...he has the process to kill them correct though!
