It is a little know fact that as well as their collaboration in martial arts movies Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris were one-time sparring partners back in the early 1980's. Their paths would not cross again until nearly a decade later when they appeared in at least three movies together.

Chuck Norris had been around quite some time before Van Damme arrived in the US. By the time of the 1980's which is around the time that Van Damme got his first break, not a very successful one, he met Chuck Norris who served as a mentor for Van Damme.
