No. The movie was, however, inspired by the true crimes of a killer named Ed Gein. In addition to murder, he also robbed graves and kept parts of the bodies around his house. Gein was arrested in 1957 and found to be insane. He spent the rest of his life confined to a mental institution and died in 1984.

There is not a real Texas chainsaw massacre, the movie is based off a man named Ed Gien and he is also the reason for the psycho movies.
