Should my menstrual cycle affect my breastfeeding?

Answer by  mnmas (238)

I do not believe so. Usually it is the opposite. Breastfeeding will usually affect your menstrual cycle. When you begin to breastfeed it is possible to not have a period for quite some time. In some women this lasts until they stop breastfeeding.

Your menstrual cycle doesn't affect your breastfeeding but your breastfeeding may affect your menstrual cycle because of increased level of prolactin which lowers the levels of estrogen and progestron and this may lead to amenorrhea .

From past experience of breastfeeding two children my menstrual cycle was never affected by breastfeeding. Your body does take two to three months to return to normal and breastfeeding should help your body return to normality.
