A yolk sac normally appears in the 5th weak of pregnancy and is about 6 mm. If you are pregnant, having a yolk sac is very normal. Having a cyst at during early pregnancy is also normal. The yolk sac is a membrane that keeps the embryo alive-- It is the circulatory system until the heart forms and provides nourishment.

Monthly your ovary emits an egg covered in eggshell. The eggshell gets left behind during ovulation and the body dissolves it. The yolk sac, or eggshell, has not yet dissolved.
