My Mercruiser 5.7 will not start unless you pour a little gas in the carburetor. Where should I look?

Your fuel pump is defective; the first thing i would try is remove the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor, and start your motor. If there is no fuel coming from the fuel line (make sure you catch the gas into a container), you have a defective fuel pump.

If the engine doesn't start unless primed like that, you might want to check the fuel connections around the carburetor, and if fuel is reaching the carburetor. There may be a blockage. Best to take it to a shop, and have them check it out.
