My copy of Starcraft 1 will not all the Terran campaign to start. Any ideas why this is what I can do to fix it.

You should reinstall the game. You can always copy your profiles and maps and put them back after a reinstall, so you don't have you worry about losing a file. Make sure you have the latest patch. You can also register you cd key and download the game client.

Its because the game wants you to play as the other races. If you beat the entire game you can go back later and choose any level you want to play.

What I would do is try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, if this doesn't work You should check your disk for scratches and clean them.

This is a common problem, you need to download the appropriate add-on pack that allows you play the Terran campaigns.
