If your cat has an infected sore, you should take it to be checked out by a veterinarian so he can check the severity of the infection. Small animals can become septic quickly and die from an infection, so it is better to be safe. Vets know how to treat infections.

Clean the wound as best as you can, most times the cat will help you in cleaning it. Use warm soapy water and pat the sore, do not rub it, bring the cat to the vet for some anti-biotics.

I would use peroxide and bandages. Peroxide will disinfect it without pain, and the bandages will keep your pet from further infecting it either outside or through play. Also, it will keep the animal from licking the sore.

Cat can take the same treatment that humans do. Clean the infected area thoroughly. Pull away any hair from the area using a wet cloth. Use Pain Reducing Neosporin on the infected area. Cover it with a piece of gauze and the using a sports wrap, wrap the gauze to cover it.
