Land Rover Discovery II sounds like a fan is running when the car is turned off and the keys have been removed from the ignition. What could be the reason?

Sometimes a fan will run if the engine is still hot. If not there may be a sticking relay or bad fan module.

the reason could be because of the big engine, it takes time for it to cool down, thereby producing a fan like sound,

This is common on newer cars. They have electric fans that can continue to run if the engine is over a certain temperature and the key is off. Eventually it will stop running. If it doesn't then you may have an issue with the cooling system.
