Is "unconstructive" a word?

Or would one more appropriately say "not constructive"?

"Unconstructive" is not a word. To construct something is to build it. You cannot "un-build" something just as you cannot "unconstruct" something. The intention is to say that an activity is not contributing to the progress or betterment, so "not constructive" or "not productive" or "counter-productive" would be better choices.

Unconstructive is indeed a word; you can however choose synonyms such as "Not constructive", "nonconstructive" and / or "unhelpful" if you want to avoid that specific word. But they are all correct.
