There is no such specie of tarantula or any specie of spiders that eat birds because their main diet mostly consists of insects trapped on the spider web, But there is a specie which is called Goliath birdeater tarantula spider. It is considered to be the second largest specie of spiders.

I hate to break it to yeah but your boyfriend isn't just trying to scare you.There are things called the "Goliath bird eating Tarantula". Its one of the largest Tarantulas.
