There are several new pennies coming out. In honor of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday, the U.S. Mint released four new designs of the penny.

Yes, the United States mint is in the middle of releasing a series of new pennies. Last year there were 4 new Abraham lincoln pennies that were issues. this year there are supposed to be 2-4 new penny designs issued. In addition, the program is supposed to continue next year (2011).

In 2009 they released a new series of pennies in honor of the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. They aren't meant to replace the old penny, just to celebrate the history of Lincoln and the penny itself. The "heads" side is exactly the same but these pennies have different backs to them.

There are new coins coming out all the time. Your best bet is going to be searching on the web site for the US Mint. It may be hard to find but they usually have a calendar of expected new coin releases. They are reworking the penny so that it has very little copper now.
