I have known several people who used it and lost a lot of weight. The problem is it is liquid for an initial period of time. It has nutrients, vitamins and minerals. But liquid only is not what our bodies need or our metabolism can adjust to.

Pretty much any diet plan can be safe. Things like Optifast are designed by professionals. However, before starting a diet plan, it's a good idea to speak with a Doctor.

Because Optifast is formulated to meet the reccommended daily requirments for all nutrients and includes high grade proteins in the formula it can generally be considered a safe liquid diet especially if the dieter is under the supervision of a bariatric specialist while using it. Not everyone can handle a liquid diet and for this reason supervision is necessary.

Optifast diets are safe when prescribed and carefully monitored by your doctor. You should never attempt very low calorie diets (vlcd) such as liquid diets on your own though. It's meant to give you the absolute lowest calories, so it's very important to do it under a doctors supervision to make sure you stay safe.

Optifast is an extrememly risky diet. You have to have constantly make visits to your doctor to make sure your body can handle it and it is very costly.
