I like the Nikon line because it has a reputation for durability and quality. The optics are good and the number of megapixels is satisfactory. By using this camera, you will learn how to properly compose and crop images. You will still want to study the relationship between aperture and shutter speeds. The manual will help you with that.

Yes it is a very good choice for those who are not familiar with operating cameras. It is very light so it may be just what you are looking for.

It's a semi professional compact camera, so I think it's a good choice for beginners. It weights only 480g so it's not very heavy.

IF you are trying to be a legit photographer you want to get a DSLR camera with manual setting capiblities. A Nikon Cool Pix does the job for you and really is not teaching you how to use a camera,
