Is the Ford Explorer 4X4 a good second vehicle for a family?

It won't be good on gas, but if it's used as a secondary vehicle, it shouldn't be too bad. If you camp a distance from the highways, the 4X4 will come in handy, and it's got space for the dog. If you don't go offroad very often, the two wheel drive version would do you better.

A Ford Explorer 4X4 is an excellent choice for a active family with a large dog. Depending on the model year you may find many features that will come in handy for camping trips. The hatchback is great for easy loading and unloading equipment and tailgating. The 4X4 model will help if you take the off road too.

A Ford Explorer is a great family vehicle. There is plenty of head and leg room in the front and back! The Explorer will fit a family of four or five comfortably and there is definitely enough room for a dog and lots of camping gear!
