No, it is a representitive through which prayer can be channeled towards the Lord, and acts as a permanent reminder of the burden of our sin that jesus carried.

No. An idol is something that you worship. Most Christians worship Jesus, whom they believe was both man and God, and the cross is both a reminder of how he died and an expression of what his death and resurrection mean. It's one thing to wear a cross around your neck. Quite another to carry one on you back.
