Pearl-colored paint tends to give cars more of a "soft glow" than an actual shine. A pearl-colored car can be considered pearlescent because the paint appears to slightly changes colors and shades depending on the light source. Family luxury cars generally have pearlescent paint, as opposed to sports cars that generally have a metallic paint job.

Yes, pearly paint can appear shiny - or pearlescent - in certain lights. Paints that contain pearls reflect light. Depending on the amount of light and reflection it can alter the hue. However, pearl paints will be more difficult to spot repair.
